In India Hand Embroidered Tapestries are symbols of blessings and reverence, celebrating the occasion that brings guests and visitors into our home.   In this part of the world, a guest is as close to god as a human can get and because you never know when a guest is coming, the entrance is always decked with colorful adornment.  Tapestries greet and bless everyone that enters ~ radiating love, prosperity, health and happiness.  They are draped just outside the main doorway or a wall, invoking joy, warmth and abundance.  These forms of vintage folk art are functional household amenities essential for daily life in India AND they’re also pure expressions of human spirit, a sublime unfurling of form and color as a way for souls to find one another through lucent rays that say friendship, joy and show us how love is sewn.

Tapestries are also important parts of the dowry that the bride takes to decorate her new home and they generously display her gifts and talents.  These traditional art forms are becoming more rare because young families are leaving the rural countryside and moving to cities in search of modern livelihoods.  Our work and your support is the preservation of an artistic heritage, culture and a sustainable artisan economy that is often paired with an agricultural economy. These allow families, and especially the women who embroider-- and are often the social fabric of a community-- to continue a traditional practice.  Please visit our links page for historical and cultural insights into Indian Textiles and organizations working to promote traditional arts.
